Abstract

This study was conducted to identify the degree of self care agency and well-being and to investigate the relationship between self-care agency and well-being of elderly.
The subject of this study were 113 elders, over 65, who were sampled in Jinju city. Data was collected by questionnaire from 16th of Sep. to 12th Oct. Data was conducted with SPSS program including percentage, mean, standard deviation, t-test, F-test and Pearson Correlation Coefficient.
The measurement tools were Self-As Carer Inventory developed by Geden and Taylor and translated by So, Hyang Sook for self-care agency, and Well-being developed by Chang, Hae Kyung for well-being.
The result of this study can be summarized as follows:
1.The mean of self-care agency was 3.56(SD=0.75) and this means that the old people had moderate self-care agency.
2.The degree of self-care agency according to demographic characteristics was significantly different in gender, age, education level, married and health status.
3.The mean of well-being was 3.31(SD=0.43). a moderate degree.
4.The degree of self-care agency according to demographic characteristics was significantly different statistically in gender, married and health status.
5.There was a significant positive correlation between self-care agency and well-being.
